Come early and play Golf or Pickle Ball!

Del Monte Golf Course is a landmark course that has played an instrumental role in popularizing golf out West since its inception in 1897. The birthplace of the California State Amateur and the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi retains much of that classic charm today, challenging the game’s best golfers with its small, sloping, old-school greens.  Lunch will be served at the course before our shotgun start and prizes will be awarded for closest to the hole and longest drive.

Pickle Ball

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. You know something is happening when the New Yorker magazine runs an article entitled, “Can Pickleball Save America?” (July 18, 2022) Two Rotarians in our District (Darlene Drapkin, Richmond, and Ken Brummel-Smith, Mt. Shasta) are USA Pickleball Ambassadors. They will be holding a pickleball clinic and play day October 27 from 12 to 5pm at the District Conference in Monterey. The event will be at the Monterey Tennis Center, a short walk from the conference hotel. The event will start with two short clinics, one by Darlene for new and novice players, and one by Ken for more advanced players. Then we will have a “scramble” – a fun way to play games where everyone gets to play some games with similar skilled players. The cost will be $45 per person (pay the day of at the courts) .

Come on out and try pickleball. It’s easy to learn and a fun way to get exercise and meet other Rotarians.

State Capitol

The Capitol is open seven days a week. Weekend hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Weekday hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tours are available by signing up with a docent in the Capitol Rotunda. And most importantly, admission to the Capitol is always free.

Public tours run weekdays on the hour from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Sign up for tours at
the Information Desk in the first Floor Rotunda. Our public tours are limited to 20 individuals on a first-come, first-served bases. We can only accommodate groups of up
to 10 people on each public tour.

Summer tours:  

April – October, Sunday and Wednesday 11:00 AM
Schools and groups of 10 or more may make a tour reservation by calling Reserve
California at 1-866-240-4655.

Wheelchair Access

The North (L Street) and South (N Street) entrances have wheelchair ramps. Sidewalks leading to the Capitol are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs can be checked out for use in the building. To check out a wheelchair, visitors should come to the information desk in the first floor Rotunda. A driver license will be held until the wheelchair is returned.

OLD SACRAMENTO WATERFRONT DISTRICT

Just outside the Holiday Inn door you will find the tunnel to Old Sacramento. You will soon find yourself located in the Waterfront District which is a 28 acre National Historic Landmark District & State Historic Park. Lots of shopping, walking, dining and attractions.

California State Railroad Museum

This is a must see for everyone! These Giants will amaze you!

DO CO COMMONS

Downtown Commons, formerly known as Sacramento Downtown Plaza, Westfield Downtown Plaza and Downtown Plaza, is a two-level outdoor mixed-use entertainment and shopping complex. Just outside the Holiday Inn side door and to the left.

Crocker Art Museum

One of the state’s premier collections of Californian art, dating from the Gold Rush to the present day, a collection of master drawings & European paintings.The Museum is open to the public Wednesday – Sunday from 10 a.m. -5 p.m. Advance registration is highly recommended. Face coverings are required for all guests over the age of 2.
